Mark your calendars for World Food Day, an international campaign to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable food systems and the global fight against hunger, on October 16.

This year’s theme has been declared by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to be “Water is life, Water is food.” “Don’t leave anyone behind.” The theme emphasizes the importance of water for life on Earth, as well as water as the foundation of our sustenance. As water availability is threatened by urbanization, economic development, population growth, and climate change, it also seeks to raise global awareness of the importance of water management.

Every year on October 16, World Food Day raises awareness of hunger and encourages action for food, people, and the environment’s future. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) designated October 16 as World Food Day in 1979.

Poverty exposes children to serious, potentially fatal risks such as malnutrition, famine, and chronic health conditions. Food insecurity is becoming increasingly dangerous for people living in poverty. Hunger and malnutrition will remain chronic and acute issues during times of crisis, tragedy, epidemics, and pandemics unless sustainable agricultural production and food systems are built around the world.

Access to safe drinking water is critical for everyone’s health and food security. Let us collaborate to ensure that no one is left behind on the path to a nourished and sustainable planet.

Save Water Save Life
